The client came to me with three inherited rings.  They wanted to use some or all of the stones in the design of the engagement ring.  When we met I had a look at the rings and did a few sketches.  They decided on one, and from this point the rest of the ring was kept a secret.  The surprise was the beautiful half carat brilliant cut diamond that I sourced which became the focus of the ring.  The sapphire and smaller diamonds came from the inherited rings, and there is plenty left over to use in the weddings which I will be making for them.

Having originally been commissioned to design and produce Katherine’s engagement ring, I was delighted to be able to finish the job by making the wedding rings.  As Katherine’s engagement ring was an unusual shape she needed a custom fitted wedding ring.  We were able to incorporate the remaining sapphires from her grandmother’s ring into the wedding ring.

The client came to me with multiple inherited pieces of jewellery, none of which was being worn.  They wanted to use some or all of the stones and gold in the design of the engagement/wedding ring. It was decided that the best use of all the gold and stones they had would be to make stacking rings. She loved the idea of flexibility with the different rings. As discussions progressed it was decided that she would like 5 rings.  I them mixed the metals and melted the gold together to achieve a beautiful rich colour of metal and set about making up the rings.  In doing so keeping the sentiment attached to the original pieces.

The client liked chunky rings and had a rough model of what they wanted. There was also considerable inherited gold to add to the ring. After several discussions we decided the best method would be to  cast a base ring and add elements of the other gold to the top of the ring to create the ice flow effect. These elements were made by melting mixed gold shapes and sometimes squashing them and sometimes dropping the melted gold into cold water to get the random organic shapes. The stone was set by soldering the gold shapes around the stone and then additional shapes were arranged away from the stone.
